About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer and trial skills teacher aroud the world, its his most important tool. As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

[The Jack Rice Show] Jack Interviews Ayman Oghanna in Istanbul, Turkey about ISIS

Listen to Jack's Interview with Ayman

Ayman Oghanna wrote an amazing piece entitled A Child Called Tragedy: Iraqi Identity in Crisis. for Al Jazeera. Ayman looks deep into the region and explains it in ways that I have rarely seen.  Check out the piece and listen to this really interesting journalist.

I enjoyed this conversation very much.  By the way, Ayman joins me from Istanbul and you can occasionally here his child playing in the background.  I love that.

[Al Jazeera America Appearance] September 26th: Jack Talks International Terrorism and Syria

I appear on Al Jazeera America on September 26 at 10:00 p.m. to talk about Al Qaida and Syria.  The West is struggling to determine how to support opposition groups while at the same time being hesitant to do so because they might be Al Qaida.  As a result, some in Syria see the opposition as unable to acquire support to fight Assad. So, what is the West to do?  What are opposition groups to do? What do the Americans do?

Click here to watch and hope you like it.

[Al Jazeera Appearance] August 31st: Jack Talks Petraeus and CIA

I appear on Al Jazeera on August 31st.  Gen. David Petraeus will be taking over as Director of the CIA on September 6th.  However, what happens when a career military man who was the consumate politican's politican at the Pentagon takes the reigns in Langley?  Further, what happens with the further militarization of the CIA? What about so-called group think?

This should be an interesting conversation.  I always like appearing on Al Jazeera because their perspective if frequently broader and they bring more to the table themselves during the interview.  This should be fun.

Hope you can catch it.

[Al Jazeera Appearance] Sunday, October 17th: Talk on U.S. Blindspots

I appear on Al Jazeera on Sunday, October 17th at 9 p.m. e.t.  A recent story about an American involved in the Mumbai attack and what the Americans actually knew raises some really interesting questions.  Why is it that the Americans are so willing to ignore the bad acts of some in the Pakistani government?  In addition, have the Americans finally learned to connect the intelligence dots or are they still making the same kinds of mistakes they made pre-9/11?  I will appear on Al Jazeera to talk about it.  Should be fun.

Hope you can catch it.

[Al Jazeera Appearance] Wednesday, September 29th: Talk on CIA Attacks and Al Qaida Threats

I appear on Al Jazeera on Wednesday, September 29th at 9 p.m. e.t.  According to U.S. officials and the media, the CIA increased attacks in Pakistan to stop attacks in Europe. However, that ignores the numbers we have seen for the last two years!  The Obama increased the number of attacks by almost 4 times those seen during the Bush Administration and this has been going on for 18 months.  Somebody is not telling everything they know . . .

This should be a fun conversation.

[Al Jazeera Appearance] Friday, August 27th: Talk on CIA Payouts in Afghanistan

I appear on Al Jazeera on Friday, August 27th at 8 p.m. e.t.  Recent revelations about secret the CIA payroll in Afghanistan highlight an ongoing problem:  If you have to buy your friends, are they really your friends?  To make matters worse, if you are buying the friendship of really bad guys, are you not responsible for the activities of those bad guys? Many in the country are starting to ask those questions about CIA activities in Afghanistan.  I will appear on Al Jazeera to talk about it.

Hope you can watch.

[Al Jazeera Appearance] Monday, July 26th: Talk on Afghanistan Leaks

I appear on Al Jazeera on Monday, July 26th at 9 p.m. e.t.  I will discuss the recent leak of 91,000 documents to a group of news organizations.  The information that is coming out not only confirms the incompetency of the efforts and the Pakistan duplicity in the region but also an interesting response from the Americans.

I like Al Jazeera because their approach is really independent and highlights angles not seen elsewhere.  I hope you can catch this.
