About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer and trial skills teacher aroud the world, its his most important tool. As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] October 16th: Jack Talks Diminishing U.S. Influence in South Asia

I appear on AM 950 Minneapolis with Mike McIntee on October 16th. It was just announced that President Trump will be meeting with Philippine President Dutuerte.  This is an extraordinary development considering Dutuerte's very public calls for Philippine citizens to simply go out and kill people they think are drug dealers. The Philippine President has also taken it upon himself through his government to conduct such killings. Considering what this means regarding a complete lack of a judicial process and the rule of law, it is only exacerbated by Trump's encouragement of Dutuerte in the past alongside this new visit.

This meeting is part of an effort to try to perpetuate U.S. power in the region or at least prop up the U.S. deterioration of its power in the region. Considering China continuing to flex its considerable muscle while at the same time North Korea firing off missile after missile while testing nucs and threatening to use them, things are certainly heating up.

This will be fun.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] June 16th: Jack Talks Philando Castile Verdict

I appeared on AM 950 just after 3 p.m. local time and I had just learned that Jeronimo Yanez was found not guilty of all counts after shooting Philando Castile at a traffic stop in 2016 in Ramsey County.  Sadly, this feels very much like another statistic in a long line of statistics of African American men being killed by police officers and then the police officers are never charged or if they are, they are acquitted.

A jury of seven men and five women decided his fate.  Ten were white while only two were people of color.  In the end, as I wasn't in their position, they decided that the state failed to meet its burden to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Yanez was guilty.  For the family of Mr. Castile, the verdict must be heartbreaking. For an entire community that has watched this case very closely, I have a feeling other emotions are also breaking the surface.

This is a tough interview for me.  Ive stook in front of many juries and I have talked about race, color, national origin.  And I have talked to juries that want the world to be a certain way.  They want the police to be the good guys even when sometimes, they aren't.  I've talked about hate, and fear, and anger, and resentment.

I can't imagine just how hard it would be to look into the eyes of an African American child and tell that that their life is as valuable as everybody else's life is.  As I said, this is a tough interview.

I hope you can find it somewhere . . .

[AM950 Minneapolis] April 24th: Jack Talks Trump/Russia and the Senate Intel Committee

I appear on AM 950 in Minneapolis on April 24th at 3:30 p.m. c.s.t.  As the story of Trump and the Russians refuses to die, there are three ongoing investigations, the FBI, the House Intelligence Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee.  While the FBI investigation iis pretty veiled and difficult to figure out at this point, it is clear the the House Intelligence Committee is in turmoil and a political trainwreck  Congressman Nunez has recused himself and the fingerpointing continues. That leaves the Senate Intelligence Committee.

At this point, Senator Burr's Chairmnaship of this Committee certainly has a lot of questions to answer.  For instance, the Committee has interviewed nobody.  In fact, they have subpoened nobody. Further, they have no fulltime staff investigating the matter and of the part time staff they do have, none of them have prosecutorial experience. None of them have investigative experience.  And, none of them have intelligence experience.  So, what exactly are they doing?  At this rate, President Trump will be out of office before anybody even starts addressing the issue of whether or not he or his team colluded with the Russians.

Lets be clear, this is not fake news. U.S. intelligence has concluded that the Russians absolutely attempted to manipulate the Presidential election.  We also know that the Russians were trying to help Trump.  The only question is whether Trump actively or passively accepted that help.  This is what we need to know.

This will be a fun interview.

[AM950 Minneapolis] April 12th: Jack Talks Russia's Intentions

I appear on AM 950 Minneapolis with Matt McNeil on April 12th at 3:00 p.m.  With the constant drip drip drip of stories coming out about Russia and the Trump Administration, it is sometimes easy to miss the big picture. What exactly is Russia doing and why?  We need to contemplate where Russia was before the fall of the Berlin Wall and  the "end of the cold war."  The Soviet Union became a has-been and was laughed off of the world stage.  However, the Riussians never thought of it that way and Vladimir Putin has had very different ideas for a long time.  Contemplate what they are doing in the Middle East right now.  They have been having a dramatic impact in Iran, in Syria, in Turkey and more. Consider Russia's willingness to reach back into the former Soviet Republics and what they did in the Crimea. They aren't done and they have cconcept of Russia's rightful place in the world

I will appear with Matt to talk big picture about where Russia is going and what is coming next.  There is a lot to talk about and few to nobody is actually doing it.  This is going to be something worth listening to I believe. I hope you can catch it.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] April 7th: Jack Talks U.S. Airstrikes

I appear on AM 950 in Minneapolis on April 7th at 3:30 p.m. with my friend Matt McNeil.  I appears that President Trump is getting a lot of support from the American people for his decision to fire 59 tomahawk missiles at a cost of $100 million into Syria.  Many are trying to understand why the President made this decision considering his very words about American involvement in Syria, about America first, and more.  We will discuss this and more.

Hope you can listen.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] March 2nd: Jack Talks Russians and AG Sessions' Recusal

I just appeared on AM 950 in Minneapolis with my friend Matt McNeil.  The story of Russian efforts to manipulate US elections and its blowback continue to expand and even gain traction.  Yes, Micahel Flynn is out. Now, it appears the Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made some incredibly serious gaffs that are going to be hard to justify.  As a result, he just recused himself from the investigation which is initself extraordinary. However, that may not be enough.  He could become a target of the investigation and may actually face perjury charges.

While perjury charges seem unlikely at this point or even his resignation, this issue is not going away and will dog the GOP for a loing time to come.  POTUS certainly wants to talk about something else but his war with the media has certainly not helped him make too many friends in that camp so expect the fight to continue, and with gusto.

Hope you were able to catch it.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] January 16th: Jack Talks Trump's Foreign Policy

I appear on AM 950 in Minneapolis on January 16th at 4 p.m. c.s.t. to discuss the Secretary of State designate and President elect Trump's possible foreign policy.  From lifting sanctions on Russia to disrupting the One China policy to moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the ramifications of what this soon to be President could do is, frankly, astounding.  We will dig into this issue and talk about what may happen in the first 100 days.

Hope you can listen.
