About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer, its his most important tool.  As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] October 9th: Jack Talks Trump Instability

I appear on AM950 with Matt McNeil on October 9th.  There is an interesting spat going on inside the Beltway that is getting really really strange. This one is between President Trump and Republican Senator Bob Corker, the Senate Chairman of the powerful Foreign Relations Committee.  What makes this particularly crazy is that the President is going after Corker and Corker refused to back down. In fact, Corker's argument is that the President needs adult supervision. What makes this interesting is that multiple reports have talked about many in the White House trying to protect Trump from . . . you guessed it Trump.  Extraordinary.

The stone cold silence inside the Beltway from other Republicans is equally amazing. Corker is popular, well respected and has a lot of friends. This puts them in a very interesting place. The real question I have been asking for months is when the GOP will decide that being allied to the President is actually costing them votes and that they would shift.  While this may not be the time, it is certainly another stick on the fire.

his should be an interesting conversation.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] August 25th: Jack Talks a Busy and Dangerous Week in the World

I appear on AM 950 Minneapolis on August 25th. Wow, what a busy week in the United States and in the world. Sometimes, people in the states overvalue the U.S. and assume the whole world is looking to the United States for answers. This is not the case. At the same time, the U.S. has enormous influence in the world and many other countries take their cue from the States. The way the President handles the media, the way they handles human rights, civil rights, and more.

This is gonig to be an amazing conversaton and always so much fun.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] August 8th: Jack Talks Trump/North Korea Egonomics

I appear on AM 950 with Mike McIntee on August 8th. For some reason, I can't help but think back to my days on the playground when two kids would start trying to act tough, yell at each other, and bump chests until one of them told the other one that "my father could beat up your father."  Children, right?  Well, what happens if they have nuclear weapons?  Of course, Kim Jung-Un and Donald Trump are not children but there are aspects of this story that make me wonder.

This is a potentially horrific story with worldwide ramifications.  Hope you can listen.

[AM950 Minneapolis] July 20th: Jack Talks the World Including Trump, Sessions, CIA Ops in Syria and More

I appear on AM 950 Minneapolis with my buddy Matt McNeil on July 20th at 3:30 p.m c.s.t.  With so much going on in the world right, its hard to know where we will start.  The Middle East contonues to spin and we will likely discuss Mosul and the sweeping out of ISIS but also the rise on Iran as well as the President's announcement that he is going to stop CIA covert ops in Syria to topple Bashar al Assad from power.

We will also address some really interesting developments regarding President Trump and his Attormey General Jeff Sessions.  Apparently, if the President knew that Sessions was going to recuse himself from the Russia investigation, Trump wouldn't have tapped him for the position.  This is startling consider the reason for Sessions' recusal or maybe that is exactly the point.

This promises to be spicy.  Hope you can catch it.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] July 7th: Jack Talks G20 Summit

I appear on the Mike McIntee Show today on AM 950. President Trump is in Hamburg as we speak and while everybody is talking about his big meeting with Russian President Putin, there are a lot of other really important issues that need to be discussed. The group should be talking about Syria, North Korea, Climate Change and Trade.  In fact, The E.U. and Japan just signed a freetrade agreement. While this isn't getting much play, it should be. It establishese the largest freetrade agreement in the world. It is larger than U.S. trade and the Americans were essentially excluded.  This is really due to President Trump's continuing "go it alone, we will dictate all terms" approach.  It is going to be an interesting summit and may help educate the Americans that just because you are the United States, that doesn't mean that we can't collectively work around you and, to some degree, ignore you.

Getting interesting.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] July 6th: Will the U.S. Attack North Korea?

I appear on AM 950 on July 6th  at 3:00 p.m. c.s.t.to discuss a really complicated issue, North Korea. During the election, Donald Trump said the issue was easy. It is a lot of things but the one thing it isn't is easy. The reason it is so difficult is because there are no simple answers and the ramifications of making mistakes couldbe millions of dead people. The North Koreans have nucs, probably anywhere from 10 two 20 of them and they have the capability to deliver those nucs to South Korea and Japan.  Further, they have large numbers of conventional weapons and that capability could kill millions.  Of course, the U.S. could turn North Korea into a parking lot with millions of dead people.  However, the North Koreans could respond before they go down in flames.  Talking tough is all well and good but pointless.

This is a question of security for Kim Jong-Un.  Very simply, he is afraid of external forces and internal ones.  Both of which would be more than happy to kill him.  As a result, the question needs to be, what is he trying to accomplish.  We are going to flesh this out today on AM 950.  I'll be on for an hour so this is certainly going to be interesting.  Hope you can catch it.

[AM950 Minneapolis] May 25th: Jack Talks Trump, NATO & Terrorism

I appear on AM 950 today with Matt McNeil. Donald Trump just met with other NATO leaders in Europe and the ramifications of his words matter. Unfortunately, the statements he made sounded much more like a campaign speech to his faithful rather than a speech from one world leader to other world leaders. To make it worse, his analysis regarding NATO funding is actually incorrect.  As result, Trump's credibility continues to slide. Agreements currently in place apply to national defense funding for each member state, not NATO funding.  The distinction is critical.  In additionto NATO, we also talk about terrorism and the recent Manchester bombing.

So much to talk about.

[AM950 Minneapolis] May 12th: Jack Talks Trump and Possible Obstruction

I appear on AM 950 Minneapolis with my buddy Matt McNeil.  President Trump admitted during an interview on NBC that one of the reasons that he fired FBI Director Jim Comey was because of the Russia investigation which he describes as fake news.  Here's the problem.  Its a real investigartion into possible criminal wrongdoing.  If somebody does somethig to impede an investigaiton, one can be charged with a crime, obstruction of legal process.  Again, this is a crime.  Presiden's can be impeached for committing crimes.  Of course, politics plays an enormous role in this.  If we learned nothing following the impeachment of Bill Clinton, we've learned nothing.

This promises to be an interesting converstion.

[AM950 Minneapolis] March 20th: Jack Talks Intel Investigations re. Trump and Russia

I appear on AM 950 in Minneapolis today at 4:05 p.m. c.s.t to discuss Director Comey's and Admiral Rogers' testimony before Congress. This is quite extraordinary.  Both actually admitted that there was nothing behind President Trump's claims regarding President Obama.  Let me say that again.  This was a lie.  Seriously, this is extraordinary.  In addition, the idea that there is an ongoing investigaiton of the Trump team and Russia is actually mindboggling.

This is going to be good.

[The Jack Rice Show] October 2nd: Amaiya Zafar is a fighter. I dare you to say she isn't.

Photographer, Aaron Lavinsky, Star Tribune

Click below to listen to this interview.

What an extraordinary story.  This little 13 year old girl decides she want to fight.  Well, to be clear, she wants to box.  Speed forward two years and 15 year old Amaiya Zafar has been training and sparring and still wants to fight and she wants to compete.  However, there's a problem.  The problem isn't that she's a girl or because she is Muslim and is required to wear specific clothing including long pants, long sleeves and hijab.  That isn't the problem.  The problem is that the AIBA, the international boxing federation that overseas all fights, says that she isn't allowed to wear these and therefore can't box.

This is when the second fight happens. What Amaiya and her family have do is quite extraordinary.  I enjoyed this interview very very much and I think you will as well.  As a father of daughter, it was especially poignant to me.  However, regardless of whether you have girls, boys, or no children at all, I find this story to be incredibly inspiring.
