About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer, its his most important tool.  As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world as much as he himself is captivated.

[Commentary] Radio and TV Correspondent's Dinner

Tomorrow night, I will be attending the Radio and TV Correspondent's Dinner at the Convention Center in Washington DC.  It is always strange to me.  First of all, I have to put on a tux.  This is strange for a whole series of reasons.  Second, it is always weird because a lot of the people there seem a lot more comfortable in a tux than I am.  Finally, I feel somewhat strange because I have been a lot of places in the world and it feels strange and I feel a little bit guilty to be standing around with a bunch of people in black and white as so many things are happening in the world and I am here.

I continue to think about Haiti, Afghanistan, Gitmo, Iraq, Darfur and a whole series of other places.

So, I go to this event and talk to the people around me and try to enjoy myself.  I guess that I will try. However, down deep, I feel like I am wasting my time.  However, I can't be waist deep in what I see everyday because it would be too much.  So, strangely enough, maybe this gives me contrast and is therefore good.

So, I guess I do my best to recharge and then do what it is that I do.
