About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer and trial skills teacher aroud the world, its his most important tool. As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

[WVLY Radio] February 1st: Nunes Memo Creates Open Conflict

I appear on WVLY Radio with my buddy Howard Monroe on February 1st.  House Intelligence Committee Chairman has decided to released a classified memo that objective sources has been called incomplete, confusing, inaccurate and may actually disclose sources and methods. All of these terms come from the sitting FBI Director who was a Trump nominee and a life long Republican. In the bizarro world in which we livew, the Republicans seem to be under the belief that they should attack the U.s. Justice Department rather than determine whether or not it is true about whether President Trump or any of his people actually worked with and cooperating with the Russians.

This is an extraordinary development. This should be a fun interview.

[WVLY West Virginia] August 28th: Jack Talks Trump's Pardon of Joe Arpaio

I appear on WVLY West Virginia with my buddy Howard Monroe on August 28th.  Mr. Trump is standing by his pardoning of former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.  And yet, there is a reason he is being criticized by both Republicans and Democrats including a former Vice President and a current Republican Speaker of the House.  He let Arpaio off of the hook before he was even sentenced, before he ever served a day in jail, despite the fact that he ignored and absolutely repeated flouted a Federal Judge's order to not violate the U.S. Constitution and target people because of their ethnic heritage which he has absolutely no right to do.

It is striking and just another example of this President's willingness to ignore and undercut the Judiciary, an equal in the balance of power that is simply fundamental to the operation of the United States of America. He attack of the Federal Judge in Ohio that he described as a "Mexican" was breathtaking.  This is likely worse.

I continue to wonder how long Republicans will accept this kind of behavior.  This is nothing short of an attack on the institutional structure of the United States. I hope you can catch it.

[WVLY West Virginia] July 27th: Jack Talks Trump's Disgusting Military Transgender Tweet

I appear on WVLY West Virginia on July 27th with my buddy Howard Monroe. Mr. Trump seemed to take everybody my surprise including the Pentagon when he tweeted that he was going to exclude all Transgender people from serving in the military. His claim seems to be that they are disruptive and cost too much.

Lets start with the disruptive part. This is what some said about minority groups, specifically African Americans. Some said the very same thing about women. Those same people then shifted to the gay community. It seems that the idiocy that drove each of those arguments into the proverbial trash bin of history has found their latest target, the transgender community. There is simply no study that supports this contention. Thousands serve honorably in the military now and the country has not fallen. Further, the U.S. spends tens of thousands of tax dollars to recruit people to serve, and these people want to serve.  The question is about their conpetency, not how they identify themselves.

As to the price, this is simply false.  There is nothing in the literature that supports this. Even the Rand Corporation, unabashedly conservative, that has put the additional cost for the thousands who serve at a miniscule number compared to the entire budget.  Compare this to the cost of viagra and this argument is nothing but laughable.

This is going to be a fun conversation and Howard is just a great guy.

[WVLY West Virginia] May 10th: Jack Talks FBI Director Firing

I appear on WVLY with my friend Howard Monroe. The President fired FBI Director Jim Comey last night he claimed it was because of his handling of the investigation of Hilliary Clinton's emails back in 2016.  The problem is this stretches the bounds of credibility.  Trump himself heaped praise on Comey as recently as October for ewactly that.  Rather, this appears to be about Russia and the investigation.  Again, even Trump alludes to the investigation in his letter and then Kelly Anne Conway said that Comey was fired for his conduct since Trump took office,   This is exactly the point.  This was about the FBI and the FBI's pursuit of Russia and Trump connections.  Hence, when I watched this last night, Nixon's decision to fire Archibald Cox came immediately to mind.  This is an extraordinary story that continues to grow.

This is going to be fun.

I'm on WVLY with Howard Monroe Today.

One of my favorite guys in this business, Howard Monroe, has asked me to come on the air this morning with him at 8:10 e.t. to talk about Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  Always happy as this issue continues to perplex this administration just like it perplexed the last one.  However, there is always one fundamental question that we must ask:

Are we more in danger from keeping it open along with the perceptions of torture that it presents, or simply closing it outright?

It is a simple but incredibly important question.  Hope you can listen.
