About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer and trial skills teacher aroud the world, its his most important tool. As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

Russian Cyber-Attacks Increasing Worldwide

Great Britain.  The Netherlands.  The United States.  The World.  Worldwide, the Russians have become increasingly aggressive, focused and successful in their cyber efforts to infiltrate and manipulate their adversaries. In the past, we have seen this in , Ukraine, Georgia and other parts of the Eastern block.  Then things really changed.  Think, Germany, France, Britain, U.S. and more.

Let's face it, they are very very good at it. It really isn't particularly shocking considering the fact that it is cheap, relatively easy compared to war, needs a sophisticated and energized internal organization to pull it off, and . . . its effective.  The Russians have all of this and more.

Just the other day, Russian intelligence operatives from the GRU, Russian Military Intelligence, were picked up in the Netherlands after targeting a chemical weapons watchdog, the Organization to Prohibit Chemical Weapons.  Seven more were indicted in the U.S. and the Brits are losing their minds, rightfully so.

I will appear on I2 International News to discuss the ramaifations and how the U.S. and the West still haven't come up with an adequate response.

OPSEC is a Beast

Operational Security is something that the professionals have been struggling for years.  It is based upon changing technology and abilities to defend as well as the capabilities of adversaries to wreak the havoc that they espouse. Operational security is something that the U.S. Secret thinks about every day, especially when it comes to the President of the United States.

They Secret Service has just rolled out "The Beast." This is the New General Motors Cadillac Presidential Limousine, again, known effectionately as The Beast.  Its 20,000 lbs and is, to put it bluntly, not a car, not a GM, not a Cadillac.  It is a tank on wheels.  One can run a country from it, it is hermetically sealed, armed and can take a hit like, well, a tank.  It is nothing short of astounding.

I appear on I24 International News to take look at The Beast.  Should be fun, ridiculous and a lot lighter than my usual topics.

Trump Rejects Globalism as Russia Embraces It

President Trump spoke at the United Nations General Assembly and unequivocally rejected globalism and embraced nationalism and patriotism.  As he withdraws from the world to leave all to their own devices, the Russians are doing just the opposite.

President Putin intends to sell advanced missiles to the Syrians in support of the regime. Assad is alive and well and is continuing to take back all of Syria with the help of the Russians and the Iranians.  Further, The Russians are expanding their influence in the region and seeking to become the driving force and it's geo-political epicenter. They are certainly succeeding. The problem is that the countries in the region will be looking to the Russians rather than the Americans.  This will impact trade, development, terrorism, immigration and more.  As Russia's influence grows, the Americans influence shrinks.

I will appear on I24 International News to talk the latest in Syria and how President Trump's words at the UN highlight America's future.

Will a North/South Korean Summit Lead to Another With Trump?

South Korean President Moon and North Korean Chairman Kim met for another summit this week.  This is not their first and they've promised that it won't be their last.  They both made promises to deal with some political, cultural and economic issues.  While this is promising, the issue the world is looking at is the issue of the North Korean nuclear threat. This, sadly, hasn't seemed to change much.

Kim Jong Un has promised to destroy a nuclear testing facility and a rocket testing lab but won't do anything until President Trump first does a series of things.  Unfortunately, this is reminiscent of what happened to the team of U.S. negotiators during the Bush years.  Trump opened himself to this with his behavior early on and then agreeing to a summit without conditions in June in Singapore.

The problem that Kim faces is both internal threats and external ones.  Both are critical to his survivial and the Americans seem to have never come to terms with this. The result is that they have never been able to thread the proverbial needle.

I'll appear on I24 International News tonight to talk about what the Americans need to do, if anything to dive the conversation forward.

If you help blow a country to pieces and then walk away, what happens?

The war in Syria has raged for years and years now.  The estimates include almost half a million dead and some twelve million displaced both internally and externally.  The Europeans have certainly seen a lot of these refugees but consider what the Jordanians and others have had to deal with.

The Americans and the Russians continue to grapple with what is happening. They are both now claiming that they want the Iranians out and the media has bit on this.  Frankly, it is ridiculous.  The Iranians are deeply entrenched in the country economically and militarily and have been for decades and decades.

Further, the Americans are starting to cut funding for the rebuiding. Its extraordinary when we continue to make the same mistakes over and over again.  We have don't this same thing everywhere.  We come in and blow a country to pieces and then walk away leaving it to its own devices with the guarantee that what is left is the perfect cauldron but continued unrest within the country and a staging group for future attacks worldwide.

I appear on I24 International News to discuss.

The U.S. Intelligence Community Stands United but Where is the President

It was a shockingly united group.  The Heads of National Intelligence, NSA, Homeland Security, and others all lined up to talk about the Russians and one fundamental point was clear,  the Russians did it.  They tried to hijack the 2016 U.S. elections. Worse, they are continuing to try and hijack the 2018 elections too.  Of course there is one problem, where is the President.

The President, on the other hand, has also been equally clear.  As the Mueller investigation chugs on trying to determine who may have been involved, the President calls it a "hoax" and a "witch hunt." Now, do my a huge favor and reconcile that same united front of intelligence officials and the President himself.

He people have argued that what he means is that his collusion and conspiratorial support is the hoax, and the witch hunt.  However, the President has had many many many opportunities to clarify that and yet he doubles down again and again.

I'll appear on I24 International News to discuss.

Trump Believes Putin Over U.S. Intelligence

It was an extraordinary news conference like none I have ever seen. President Trump, meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki and rejecting the entire U.S. intelligence community, decided he believed Putin over the entire U.S. Intelligence community and and countless experts in the know. The real problem is that his rejection undercuts the entire U.S. Intelligence community and will certainly impact their ability to do their jobs.

I have never ever been more disgusted watching a sitting President. The problem is that the U.S. has approached international policy the same way since World War 2 and that includes Reagan, Ike, Nixon, Bush, Bush 2, Clinton, Obama, etc etc. And yet, now, Trump is jettisoning all of it and ignoring objective facts and U.S. policy.  Why?  It is nothing short of breathtaking.

I will appear on I24 International News on July 16th to discuss.

[I24 International News] June 19th: CIA Officer Indicted. Why do they do it?

I appear on I24 International News on June 19th.  Former CIA Officer Joshua Schulte was indicted today for allegedly providing critical cyber intelligence to Wikileaks. The question for some is why. I appear on Israeli TV to discuss a series of spying cases by Israeli citizens and this latest case involving an American.

People are driving by all sorts of reasons to betray their country. Sometimes, it is ideology. They believe that their own government isn't living up to its own standards. Sometimes, it is about letting the public know. Sometimes, its about money, or power and a feeling of importance and significance.  There are many other reasons as well.

This will be a fun conversation but perspective is everything.  Just like one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, one man's traitor is another man's hero.  Wacky stuff.
