About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer and trial skills teacher aroud the world, its his most important tool. As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

[AM950 Minneapolis] July 20th: Jack Talks the World Including Trump, Sessions, CIA Ops in Syria and More

I appear on AM 950 Minneapolis with my buddy Matt McNeil on July 20th at 3:30 p.m c.s.t.  With so much going on in the world right, its hard to know where we will start.  The Middle East contonues to spin and we will likely discuss Mosul and the sweeping out of ISIS but also the rise on Iran as well as the President's announcement that he is going to stop CIA covert ops in Syria to topple Bashar al Assad from power.

We will also address some really interesting developments regarding President Trump and his Attormey General Jeff Sessions.  Apparently, if the President knew that Sessions was going to recuse himself from the Russia investigation, Trump wouldn't have tapped him for the position.  This is startling consider the reason for Sessions' recusal or maybe that is exactly the point.

This promises to be spicy.  Hope you can catch it.

[WCCO Radio Minneapolis] June 20th: Jack Talks Youtube's Efforts to Fight Terrorism

I appear on WCCO Radio in Minneapolis on June 20th.  Social media has been under pressure to change their policies to help fight extremism and terrorism.  ISIS has been successful at using various platforms to spread their message of hate and violence and terrorism.  We have seen efforts from Facebook, Microsoft, Google and Twitter back in 2016 but various western countries have been unimpressed.

In the last few days, British Prime Minister May, the Germans and the European Union have all been looking at expanding requirements and oversight over social media.  And social has been trying desperately to get ahead of the stories.

I will appear on WCCO to discuss Youtube's latest efforts to address exactly this.  They are going to throw money, people and technology at this.  It is a multi pronged effort and should be interesting to see whether it is successful.

Hope you can listen.

[KOA Denver] June 16th: Jack Talks Possible Death of ISIS Leader in Syria

I appear on KOA Denver on June 16th at 8:10 a.m. e.s.t to discuss the possible death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.  This could be an extraordinary blow to the organization.  Last year his worldwide organizational deputy was also killed.  Forces from the West and Middle East are currently pounding Raqqa.

The Russians claim that they may have kill al-Baghdadi in an airstrike outside of Raqqa back on May 28th.  The Caliphate may be on its last legs if Raqqa falls in Syria.  This could spread the orgainzation around the world but there would be no central physical location for the leadership to operate. With al-Baghdadi's possible death, this could cause additional logistical problems for ISIS and slow any coordinated efforts around the globe.

An interesting development if it can be confirmed.

[KOA Denver] May 23rd: Jack Talks the Manchester Bombing

I appear on KOA Denver to discuss the recent bombing in Manchester, England. This is a particualrly difficult case as this bombing targeted children. Unfortunately, this case seems to display some of the telltale signs of ISIS.  With more than a dozen dead and more than 50 injured, the entire world is watching this case.  The facts are emerging slowly but people have lots of questions  Again, unfortauntely, at this point there are few answers. However, I will discuss the importance of cooperation between intelligence organizations to address this issue.

Hope you can listen.

[Russian TV] November 30th: Jack Talks Ohio State Attack and Racial Backlash

I appear on Russian TV every so often to talk the recent attack that killed 11 and injured more allegedly committed by a young Somali refugee who may have been inspired by IS.  Being based in the Twin Cities here in Minnesota, this is the largest groups of Somali Americans outside of Somalia.  Also, IS and Al Shabaab have both been extremely successful at targeting young men in this community to work on their behalf.  There have been multiple young men who were recently convicted of trying to go to Syria to fight on behalf of IS.  This is quite troubling.

The blowback to these attacks in the Somali community here is equally troubling.  Because of simplistic and sometimes racist views, the entire community is being targeted. Sadly, this actually exacerbates the problem and makes it even easier for IS to recruit. As a result, Americans, Western Europeans and Russians need to make the distinction between those recruited and those in the community.  They are simply not one in the same.  This is critical to fighting ISIS and supporting these communities.

This promises to be an interesting conversation.

[Russian Television International, July 22nd: Jack Talks Possible Terrorism and Munich Attack

I appear on Russian TV International on Friday, July 22nd.  Another attack. This time, allegedly three individuals were involved in an attack on a shopping mall in Munich, Germany.  While information is coming in, it is reported that at least 6 are dead.  This comes on the heals of another attack in Germany by a young man from Afganistan who claimed to be motivated by ISIL.

I will apear and talk about this continuing paradigm shift and what this will mean as well as the possible political ramifications coming out of Europe as a result.  Hope you can watch.
