About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer, its his most important tool.  As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world as much as he himself is captivated.

[NBC Affiliate Kare 11 Appearance] Monday, November 7th: Jack Talks Election Security and Law

I appear on NBC Affiliate Kare 11 on November 7th to discuss election security. This has been one of the most heated and contentious election cycles in my lifetime. The fight has been very real.  Further, there have been multiple efforts to thwart those elections from around the world.  The U.S. has pointed its finger at the Russians for a whole series of reasons.  There is no reason to doubt their continued efforts to have an impact.  Al Qaida has also called for attacks.

I will appear to talk about the possible threats, the efforts being taken to stop those threats and what the average citizen should do. However, I do have a short answer. Vote. Do not let any threat stop you from exercising your civil duty.  This is what patriotism is all about.

[NBC News, Kare 11] September 19th: Jack Talks Law and Terrorism in Minnesota

I appear on Kare 11 today.  Recent reports of an individual in St. Cloud, MN attacking and injuring eight people before being shot by an off-duty police officer.  Apparently, according to early reports not yet confirmed, prior to the stabbings, the individual was asking people if they were Muslim and something about Allah.   I will appear and discuss the law, terrorism, and security.  This is certainly a very scary case and very close to home for people living in the upprt Midwest in general and for Minneostans in particular.

Hope you can watch.

[NBC News] August 18th: Jack Talks International Law and U.S. Olympians Charged in Rio

I appear on NBC Affiliate Kare 11 with Lauren Leamanczyk on August 18th to talk about the recent Brazilian indictments of U.S. Olympians Ryan Lochte and James Feigen.  We will talk about the possible charges and about the extradition treaty between the United States and Brazil.

[Kare 11] June 3rd: Jack Talks Prosecuting ISIL Recruits and Whether It Helps or Hurts

With the conviction of three young Somali American ISIL recruits in Minneapolis today, is the United States winning the battles but losing the war? In the end, this really is a war of ideas and if the Somali community feels, that they are in the crosshairs already, what might be their response.  It is an exttemely complicated issue.  I appear on KARE 11 tonight at 10 to discuss it. Hope you can watch.

[KARE 11 TV] December 3rd: Jack Talks the San Bernardino Shooting and What it Means.

I appear on Kare 11 in Minneapolis on Thursday, December 3rd at 6 a.m. c.t.  With some 14 dead and 17 injured, there are a lot of questions.  The obvious is whether this is linked to terrorism in general and ISIL in particular. The Chief of the San Bernardino Police Department was very careful not to rule anything out at this point.  Hope you can join me as we look at the latest on this sad and very difficult story.

Hope you can watch.

[Kare 11 Appearance] October 22nd: Jack talks recent attack in Canada

I appear on Kare 11 in Minneapolis today at 5 p.m. c.t. to talk the recent attack in Canada. What is most disconcerting about this recent attack or series of attacks is that it may have been inspired by recent online appeals from ISIS/ISIL.  We are seeing other recent converts taking matters into their own hands including three young women recently arrested in Germany and another Australian recent seen on a video in Syria.  The implications are pretty huge.

Hope you can watch.

[KARE 11 TV] October 17th: Jack Talks the Law and Security Implications of Ebola

I appear on KARE 11 on Friday, October 17th at 11 p.m. e.t.  Watching the news media regarding the ebola outbreak has been pretty disgusting.  While I'm not suggesting that it isn't horrible, and it is, my concern is that the media is creating mass hysteria where it is not necessary.  Frankly, cholera is a far larger problem than ebola is at the moment.  However, the instability that health care crises cause is the region is something that the U.S. truly does need to look at.  I will apear on KARE 11 to talk about the national security ramifications of instability.

Click here to watch the interview.  Hope you can watch.

[Kare 11 Appearance] Wednesday, May 28th: Jack Talks International Law

I appear on Kare 11 in Minneapolis tonight to talk Ed Snowden and international law.  There is a real question about whether this man is a patriot or a traitor.  I get it from both perspectives.  After all, democracy needs transparency or it fails.  This is a fact and we all know it.  Simply trusting the government is not an option.  At the same time, it is impossible for the intelligence community to work in a completely transparent world and there are bad people out there who want to hurt us.  This is also a reality.  So where is the balance?

I will appear a couple of times on Kare 11 to discuss the ramifications of the Snowden case and what it means for America.  Hope you can catch it.
