About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer, its his most important tool.  As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

[Voice of America Intl Edition] December 3rd: Flynn was No Rogue Elephant

I appear on Voice of America on December 3rd. With Mike Flynn pleading guilty in Federal Court to a crime and also to willingly cooperate with the investigation, things are beginning to heat up even more. According to some of the evidence that is apparently in the hands of the Mueller prosecution team, Flynn was in close contact with many of the inner circle of the campaign regarding Russia.

The fact the Flynn lied about it is interesting and got him indicted. It will be curious to see is the rest of the inner circle also lied. If so, we could see a whole series of indictments in short order. I should add that the Trump team continued to lie to the public about no contacts with the Russians. There is unequivocal proof of such contacts now. The question is whether there was more.

Trump claims that the investigation will be over before the end of the year. Frankly, thats laughable. Under these circumstances, he should be concerned. If they prove collusion, they may be able to establish obstruction.

And the world turns.

[Voice of America Intl. Edition] November 15th: Jack Talks Latest on Mueller Investigation

I appear on Voice of America International Edition's Lori Lundin on November 15th. This story continues to have enormous legs. The longer it goes on, the more connections seem to develop. AG Jeff Sessions has testifoed again before Congress once again and his story has changed again.  And yes, he has had more contacts with the Russians than he has previously mentioned. We also know that Donald Trump Jr. has had multipe contacts with Wikileaks alongside the Russians despite VP President's statements about nobody in the Trump team having contact with Wikileaks.  This opens up another interesting angle. So much to discuss.

This is getting stranger and stranger.

[WVLY West Virginia] October 31st: Jack Talks Indictments

I appear on on WVLY West Virginia with my buddy Howard Monroe.  Two indictments and a guilty plea. It feels a little like a civil war between left and right right now based upon where the Mueller investigation is going.  The problem is there also seems to be two seperate "objective" realities.

We are going to talk about where we have gone, what's going on right now, and where the investigation may be going.  This is going to be a lot of fun.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] October 30th: Jack Talks Indictments of Trump Associates

I appear on AM 950 Minneapolis with Matt McNeil. A lot of extraordinary things are coming out of Special Counsel Bob Mueller's office.  Two have been charged and one has pled guilty. Paul Manafort and Rick Gates have been charged with twelve counts in a Federal indictment.  This is pretty extraordinary considering that Manafort was the Chair of Trump's campaign. In addition, while many of the counts involved their behavior prior to his involvement with the Trump campaign, the Feds are arguing that they were continuing to launder monry while they held positions with the Campaign.  In addition, the third, George Papadopoulos pled guilty to obstruction. This is extraordinary as this may mean that he has not only cooperated with the Feds, he may have reached back out to others who could face charges in the future.

This is going to be a pretty wild conversation.

[Voice of America Intl. Ed.] October 18th: Jack Talks Ongoing Mueller Investigation

I appear on Voice of America International Edition with Lori Lundin on October 18th.  As Mueller's investigation into Russian efforts and American complicity in the recent elections continues to chug along, I will discuss Mueller's recent interviews with Trump surrogates Priebus and Spicer. At this point, its difficult to determine whether they had any involvement or even if they have an specific information that will be helpful. However, as players in the room, they may be capable of talking about other players, what was said privately and what it means. However, with the likes of Priebus, they might know much much more.

The purpose of interviewing these other other players is to fill in gaps.  Frequently in investigations like these, it becomes easier to prosecute for obstruction than it is to prosecutor the underlying charge.  Of course, once an indictment comes down, those charged may be more willing to discuss all that they really know or heard.

This story, dispite the President's desires, continues to have legs.

[Voice of America Intl. Edition] September 19th: Jack Talks Latest on Trump/Russia Investigation

I appear on Voice of America International Edition on September 19th. As the process continues to move forward in the Trump/Russia collusion investigation, its clear that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is taking his sweet time. Further, it is also clear that he is being extremely thorough and that this approach is critically important.  At some point, he will come to some conlcusions and it is important that all sides accept the results.  The quesiton of whether the Trump conspired with the Russians has certainly rocked the country and there are regularly more questions than answers. Eventually, these questions should be answered.

The latest involves some information regarding former Trump Campaign Director Paul Manafort.  There were apparently at least two FISA warrants involving Mr. Manafort and this may lead to some really interested information. Based upon what I'm seeing, it appears that Mr. Manafort could be indicted on money laundering, tax evasion and obstruction plus more.  Of course, the question is whether it will stop there.

I will appear on VOA International Edition to discuss.  This will be fun.

[Voice of America Intl] August 15th: Jack Talks Mueller Investigation

I appear on Voice of America International Edition on August 15th.  Well, Bob Mueller's investigation just keeps on rolling.  It is slow, it is methodical and it is persistent. Of course, some want this to go away right now.  Others want answers right now.  However, Bob Mueller is about dotting every I and crossing every T.  The investigation will not be going away anytime soon. And for those calling this "fake news", including Mr. Trump, there is a whole lot of meat on those bones and Mr. Trump's behavior isn't particular helping his case.

This is giong to be an interesting conversaton as always.  Hope you can catch it.

[Voice of America Intl. Edition] May 17th: Jack Talks Special Prosecutor

I always appreciate appearing on Voice of America International  The interviews are always well thought out with an eye toward history.  That is particularly important in a case like this.  When people are neck deep in the moment, it can sometimes be difficult to see anything with perspective.  However, when one talks about the U.S. presidency and bringing in a special prosecutor to look at the issue of whether a sitting President may have colluded with the Russians, it is absolutely one for the history books.

Robert Mueller is a former FBI Director.  In fact, he was the Director under both President Bush and President Obama.  This is important.  Again, with a view of history in mind, having somebody with a bias would do a horrible disservice for the country.  Get somebody with one agenda that is looking for any reason to prosecute this President and you risk alienating a massive group of Americans as well as politicize and delegitimatize the process.  Go the other direction and you risk ignoring the possibility that the Russians not only manipulated an election but did it with the help of the sitting President.  Worse, this would also mean that Russian President Putin would still have something on the President and could make him nothing but a puppet.  Again, not a desirable outcome either.

So, to look at these issues with VOA is always a pleasure.  I hope you can listen.

[I24 International] May 17th: Jack Talks Special Counsel

What an extraordinary appearance on I24. I sat in the chair expecting to talk about Trump's release of classified information to the Russians and the ripple effect that that causes. So, I'm about 30 seconds from going on live and there is breaking news coming through my IFB, my earpiece.  A special prosecutor, special counsel, Robert Mueller, has been appointed.  I simply started laughing. As they cut to me live, you can still hear me laughing.  What an astounding development.

Robert Mueller is the former FBI Director under both President Bush and President Obama.  Also, while known as a Republican, he is also know to be apolitical.  More importantly, I expect Mueller to appproach this through the lens of history.

Again, this is an extraordinary development.
