About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer, its his most important tool.  As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

[I24 International News] August 11th: Jack Talks North Korea and Unnecessary Tensions

I appear on I24 International News on August 11th.  Its true that Kim Jong-Un's behavior is creating tensions that can be felt from the Korean peninsula to China, Japan and the United States. We also know that he has been rattling the cage since he took power from his father, just like his father did, and just like his grandfather did. The only real difference at this very moment is the occupant of the White House. This isn't to say that this isn't dangerous and that technology is making it worse. Rather, Mr. Trump has turned this into a pissing contest. The problem, if I continue this analogy, is that if somebody blinks, everybody gets wet.  Yeah, sorry about that.

This is going to be a tough converation and we will tlk about some of the possible ramifications and what happens if this goes very very wrong. Hope you can watch.

[KOA Denver] August 9th: Jack Talks Growing U.S./North Korean Tensions

I appear o KOA Radio Denver on August 9th: Tensions are spinning widely out of control between the North Koreans and Donald Trump.  I say Donald Trump rather than the Americans very specifically because it is Dona;d Trump who is exacerbating the tensions. Even his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has tried to calm things down and tried to get the North Koreans and the rest of the world to ignore his boss.  It is quite extrardinary on its face.

The problem with the inconsistencies in American foreign policy is that nobody really knows where the Americans stand.  And with growing tensions alongside the Supreme Leader of North Korea hovering over the button, a huge miscalculation could result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.

Mr. Trump needs to understand that this is not a rally for the faithful in some red state.  If he screws this up, millions could die and it might rightfully be placed in his lap.  I would hope that this would give him pause but I highly doubt it.

This should be an edgy conversation.

[RT America] August 1st: Jack Talks Growing U.S. Tensions with North Korea

I appear on RT America with Ed Schultz on August 1st. Tensions are continuing to grow between North Korea's Kim Jong-Un and President Trump. The North Koreans have conducted more than a dozen weapons tests since February and it sometimes feels as if it is taunting the President. The fear is that the President seems to be taking the bait. He told Sen. Lindsey Graham that there well could be a war.  The problem is that the North Koreans have nuclear weapons and if Kim is cornered and feels threatened, I don't think he is going to die alone.  He could very well use them.

Remember, Seoul is 35 miles south of the DMZ, has more than 25 million people in the metro area and the even a U.S. preemptive strike could not take out all of North Korea's capability. The potential is that hundreds of thousands could die or more. Its horrific.  Of course, none of the answers are simple.

So, let's see what I can say in 5 minutes.  Hahahaha.  Hope you can watch.

[I24 International News] July 28th: Jack Talks Latest North Korean Launch

I appear on I24 International News on July 28th. North Korea just launched another ICBM. In fact this was the second this month and they have had 12 launches since February. In fact, Kim Jong-Un has launched more missiles than his father and grandfather combined.

The most important the west has to consider is this: What is Kim really traying to accomplish? The problem is that the West seems to have assumed that this is about sanctions? Or treasure? It isn't. Its about security. Kim is afraid of any possible uprisings inside his own country which might be supported by the West as well as attacks from the West.  For Kim, this is about making sure that he isn't dead in a ditch hence he is fighting the world and killing lots of his own people to take them out and to use their murders as a warning to everybody else. As importantly, Kim sees Libya as a very real warning for himself. As a result, I believe that under no circumstances would he be willing to give up his weapons. There is nothing the West could or would promise. And frankly, if I were Kim, I wouldn't trust the West either.

This is going to be an interesting conversation.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] July 6th: Will the U.S. Attack North Korea?

I appear on AM 950 on July 6th  at 3:00 p.m. c.s.t.to discuss a really complicated issue, North Korea. During the election, Donald Trump said the issue was easy. It is a lot of things but the one thing it isn't is easy. The reason it is so difficult is because there are no simple answers and the ramifications of making mistakes couldbe millions of dead people. The North Koreans have nucs, probably anywhere from 10 two 20 of them and they have the capability to deliver those nucs to South Korea and Japan.  Further, they have large numbers of conventional weapons and that capability could kill millions.  Of course, the U.S. could turn North Korea into a parking lot with millions of dead people.  However, the North Koreans could respond before they go down in flames.  Talking tough is all well and good but pointless.

This is a question of security for Kim Jong-Un.  Very simply, he is afraid of external forces and internal ones.  Both of which would be more than happy to kill him.  As a result, the question needs to be, what is he trying to accomplish.  We are going to flesh this out today on AM 950.  I'll be on for an hour so this is certainly going to be interesting.  Hope you can catch it.

[MSNBC w/ AMJoy] April 16th: Jack Talks North Korea and Trump

I appeart on MSNBC's AM Joy on April 16th at 10 a.m. e.s.t.  North Korea was desperately trying to provoke and manipulate President Trump, and he succeeded.  Trump started tweeting back in the middle of the night asnd played right into the Northern Korean dictator's hands.  Foolish beyond belief.  Trump then sent a Battle group into the region causing even more instability.  The ramifications of this game can be catastrophic.  There are 20K U.S. troops in South Korea and between 25k-40k troop sin Japan.  There are 25 million civilians in Seoul alone.  This is absolutely no the way to approach this.  Unfortunately, Donald Trump is nothing but a hammer and to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

[Fox 9 Minneapolis] April 13th: Jack Talks Why the U.S. Loves Big Bombs.

I appear on Fox 9 Minneapolis on April 13th at 9 p.m. c.s.t.  I like big bombs and I cannot lie . . . or something like that.  Its strange how America'as citizens seem to wake up and instinctively cheer when we kill people, blow things up or pound our collective chest.  It is a really interesting phenomenon but it continues to hold true.  And then this latest story of a bomb that carries 11,000 lbs of explosives known as a MOAB?  Oh, the rapture.  It's pretty wild actually.nn I will appear and talk about what the UlS., was trying to do, whether it was successful and whwther it will make any difference.

[Kare 11 Minneapolis] April 13th: Jack Talks The Mother of All Bombs

I appear on Kare 11 in Minneapolis on April 13th at 5 p.m. c.s.t.  The U.S. military just dropped the largest conventional they have in their arsenal in eastern Afghanistan known as a MOAB.  They decided to target an ISIS cave complex. This comes just after a U.S. attack in Syria and as the situation heats up in North Korea. This is an interesting development and may be foreshadowing of things to come. All of this is taking place while the investigaiton involving Terump and the Russians continues to gain steam.  Many continue to ask is these two issues are interconnected.  Fascinating.

Hope you can watch.
