About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer, its his most important tool.  As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

[Press TV Tehran] November 12th: Jack Talks Sexual Harassment in U.S.

I appear on Press TV Iran on November 12th. Hundreds marched in Los Angeles to call attention to sexual harassment in Hollywood. However, it clearly doesn't stop there. We've seen in in Legislatures across the country.  There is the Roy Moore story, Uber, Donald Trump, and the list goes on and on.

This should be a really interesting conversation. The problem is that it is everywhere. Its true in entertainment, politics, tech, law, government, and just about everywhere else.  This is systemic and not just one bad apple. I will do my best to describe the problem but have no illusion that I will do it justice or truly explain that damage that it has done. However, I will do my best.

Hope you can catch it somewhere in the world.

[Press TV Tehran] October 31st: Jack Talks Trump's Renewed Muslim Ban Effort

I appear on Press TV Tehran on October 31st.  This is President Trump's third effort to ban Muslim refugees. Now, I saw this very consciously because this is exactly what he told his screaming throngs that he was going to do.  He didn't say terrorists, he said Muslims.  Therefore, one can shine this up all day long and add caveats but it doesn't seem to change the ultimate motivation.

Considering I will be talking with the Iranian Press and one of the counties to which this ban would apply, this should certainly be an interesting conversation.

Hope you can catch it.

[Press TV Tehran] October 29th: Jack Talks War Crimes in Syria

I appear on Press TV Iran on October 29th. The Russians and the Assad regime are claiming that the Americans are guilty of war crimes in their "liberation" of Raqqa. Of course, that sad part is similar claims have been made of the Russians in Aleppo and Assad throughout the country. In the end, only one thing is certain. Hundreds of thousands of civilians have been murdered in Syria and far less likely that those responsible will be help to account.

I hope worked all over the world and have seem first hand the devastation that civilians have paid in Iraq, Afghanistan, parts of Africa and elsewhere.  I can look back through history and think about civilian casualties from recently to long again.  From Fallujah in Iraq to Mi Lai to Dresden, it is always the civilians who have paid the highest price. Sometimes, it is the liberators who exact the largest toll as they waive flags and kiss babies.

This is a difficult conversation but certainly one worth having. Further, pretty much nobody in the room is innocent here.

[Press TV Tehran] October 24th: Jack Talks Delays in Kurdistan Elections and the Treaty of Versailles

I appear on Press TV Tehran on October 24th.  The Iraqi Kurdistan parliament has voted to delay elections by eight months.  There were as lot of countries watching what was happening out of Erbil. Its clear that Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria, and the U.S. is not interested in seeing an independent Kurdistan and it potentially threatens that borders of those existing countries and could also create some short term instability on the region.  Let's face it, the fear is a domino effect in which one move could force another, could force another, etc.  is a very real one where we have seen a lot of instability in the last several decades.

The problem is that millions of Kurds were disenfranchised and marginalized when the Europeans arbitrarily cut the Middle East up into its current scheme at the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.  At the point, millions of Kurds were placed into Iraq, with millions more placed in Iran, Turkey, Syria and even the Southern Republicans.  The net result was a guarantee that none of those Kurdish groups would have a majority voice.

This will be a fun conversation.

[Press TV Tehran] September 26th: Jack Debates Kurdish Independence

I appear on Press TV Tehran on September 26th.  The Kurds in North Iraq held a referendum on September 25th to argue for independence from Iraq. It is an extraordinary move and one that the Iraqi central government quickly rejected. So did the Turks. In fact, the Turks and Iraqis are conducting joint operations along the border to make the point. The Turls have also threatened to cut trade and even slop oil flowing from the Kirkuk to Turkey.  The Iranians have also cut off flight services and aren't happy.

I try to imagine the Kurdish Peshmerga staring at them across mountains and valleys. Th Kurds must feel somewhat isolated in their desire. After all, it isn't just the Iraqis and Turks who oppose them. Its also the Iranians, the Syrian regime, the United States and even the United Nations.  Everybody.

And yet, and yet, all of these governments are wrong. Each talks at one time or another about freedom, self actualization, and democracy. But none truly care a bout it, at least not from the perspective of the Kurds.  They want their own government and they deserve it.

I will be part of a debate on Iranian Press TV about this issue. If you couldn't guess, you probably know where i stand on it.

Hope you might be able to catch it.

[Press TV Tehran] September 24th: Jack Talks Kurdish Independence

I appear on Press TV Iran on September 24th.  The Kurdish people of Iraq are preparing to have a referendum on Monday, September 25th. It is not actually to declare independence but rather a very informal declaration that this is something that they really want to do.  The problem is the the U.S., the United Nations, the Turks, the Iraqis and more are against it because it threatens them.

This will be an interesting conversation because this is a massive issue for the Kurdish people. They were cut into geographic pieces after World War I and decimated by most every country afterward.  They want more and identify themselves as one people.  Will this make a difference?

This will be an interesting conversation as the Iraniangovernment isn't particuarly interested in helping them either.

[Press TV Tehran] August 3rd: Jack Talks North Korean Hydrogen Bomb

I appear on Press TV Iran on August 3rd. The North Koreans just tested another nuclear bomb and not just any nuclear bomb, a hydrogen bomb.  They have never tested anything this powerful. Further, they stated they have the technology to place a nuclear device on a missile. If this is the case, the ramifications could truly be catastrophic.

The Americans are responding and absolutely threatening the North Koreans and the United Nations Security Counsel is meeting tomorrow to talk about possible options. One possibility the Americans are discussing is sanctions where they stop trading with anybody who trades with the North Koreans. This is designed to hit one and only one country really, the Chinese. This was serious before but each day, the world continues to step a little closer to something truly and honestly deadly.

While this may be hard to find in the west, if you are in Iran or the Middle East, I hope you cam watch.

[Press TV Tehran] August 22nd: Jack Talks Trump's Phoenix Rally

I appear on Press TV Iran on August 22nd. After the issue of race came front and center as a result of Charlottesville and with Donald Trump's really strange and frankly, racists, responses, he made a conscious decision to have a political, campaign style rally in Phoenix.  The Mayor of Phoenix and both U.S. Senators from Arizona asked him to cancel in light of the incendiary nature of race issues in the country and the likelihood that Trump's statements would simply exacerbate the issues.

In the event, one might think that this isn't being watched closely around the world, but they would be wrong.  I appear on Press TV out of Tehran, Iran to discuss internal politics in the states, the nature of race relations and the Donald Trump presidency.  This is going to be an interesting conversation.

Not sure how you could listen but if so, great.

[Iranian Press TV Intl.] Tuesday, November 8th: Jack Talks the Elections and International Anxiety

I appear on Iranian Press TV Newsroom today. No long before writing this post, I was in line at my local polling place to fulfill my civic duty and vote for everybody from President of the United States to dogcatcher. Ok, that's not true, but you get the picture. I was thinking about just how brutal this election was and just how nervous so many people are. This is equally true for people around the world.

As I was thinking this, my phone rang from Iran asking me to appear on Press TV Newsroom to discuss the elections and how things have played out. This should be interesting because in many ways, I am a part of this story, which is unusual. I have lived through years of this election cycle just like everybody else. Further, I feel the exhaustion and the angst. I want to talk about that.  However, I'm sure this interview will be unique because it frequently comes from a perspective that is just different. I love that.

Hope you can catch it.  Not even sure if it appears in the States.  Probably not.
