About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer and trial skills teacher aroud the world, its his most important tool. As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

As Trump's Poll Numbers Tank, All Look to the Mid-Terms

Eight high quality Presidential approval have been completed in the last 2 weeks and they all seems to come to the same conclusion, fewer Americans are happy with their President.  While these numbers have dropped between 1 and 6 points, they all still put him under a 40% approval rating.  As a result, all are trying to decide whether these polls will make a difference at the mid-terms  Of course, people were obsessed with polls during the Presidential election but few are willing to bet the farms on any of these polls.

While this is always a question that the world is interested in, because of the President's international policy shifts from any previous American President of either party in the lasty 70 years, the International community is particularly interested.  Consistent with that concern, I will appear on Press TV out of Iran to talk about what all of these polls may mean and the mid-terms.

This should be interesting.

Could President Trump Really "Go It Alone" Regarding NATO?

I've never seen anything like it.  For almost 70 years now, the U.S. and its NATO allies have been the closest  when it comes to . . . almost everything.  This was true when there were only 12 members up until now when there are 29. This has also been true regardless of whether we were talking about a Republican or a Democrat President.  All of that has changed under Donald Trump.

Trump seems to see NATO through the lens of a balance sheet, a ledger.  The problem is that is about far more than so called dues (which they aren't) or trade (which it also isn't).  This is a defense commitment that has been in place since 1949 and stands as one of the fundamental principles of collective security.  For instance, after 9/11 when the U.S. was attacked, they went to NATO and NATO stood firmly with the U.S. and went into Afghanistan.  This was critical because the U.S. was arguing that this was not a U.S. invasion but the entire world standing up to tyranny.  This would have been impossible without the support of NATO.  Trump does not seem to understand this in anyway.

I appear on Iran's Press TV to discuss the NATO summit, President Trump's reponse, the history of NATO and its relevancy.  This is going to be interesting.

Trump Nominates Conservative Kavanaugh to Supremes

Donald Trump certainly followed through with his campaign promise to nominate conservative judges to the U.S. Supreme Court.  First Gorsuch and now DC Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Brett Kavanaugh.  Of course, Kavanaugh is a lot more than just a judge.  He learned at the knee of Special Prosecutor Ken Starr and recommended impeachment of Bill Clinton. An interesting twist on this was that subsequently, he changed his mind and said that sitting Presidents shouldn't have to face not only civil lawsuits while in the Oval Office but also criminal investigations. This is obviously significant as President Trump is facing a criminal investigation from Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

This promises to be one hell of a fight. The darling of the right Kavanugh will likely be confirmed as he only needs a simple majority of the Senate and the Republicans have 51. The question will be the impact upon the court in the long term but also the impact upon the midterms in the short term. Strap in.

I will appear on Press TV Iran on July 9th to talk about the U.S. Supreme Court and the President's nomination and what comes next.

Trump's Trade War Butts Up Against Globalism and the Rule of Law

President Trump has decided to shake things up and boy has he ever.  On the other hand, isn't that the reason 60 million Americans voted for him. Of course, imposing the Chinese, the Canadians, the Mexicans, the entire EU and other all simultaneously puts the U.s. in an interesting place.

The general approach and one that the entire world  including the U.S. has enbraced is to take these disputes to the WTO.  However, Trump decided to go a different route, Twitter.  The idea of using this process, embracing globalism and the Rule of Law, is something that the President of the United States seems to find quaint and even weak.

The potential for a full blown trade warm with the world is a very real one.  The Chinese, Canadians, Mexicans and the EU are already lining up and don't seem to be backing down.  If they don't many will pay the price, including American consumers and American markets. Some estimates suggest the U.S. could lose between 4 and 7 million jobs and the econmy could tank into recession.

I will appear on Press TV Iran on June 26th to debate this issue.  Hope you can catch it.

[Press TV Iran] April 22nd: Another Kabul Bombing with Lots of Blame to Go Around

I appear on Press TV Iran to talk about the latest bombing in Kabul as the elections approach. ISIS has taken responsibility for this and a recent series of attacks that have left scores dead across Afghanistan. This certainly isn't new and combine that with ongoing attacks by the Taliban and Afghanistan certainly continues to spin out of control. Further, Afghanistan's neighbors including Pakistan and Iran continue to watch with interest. The US too continues to play an almost passive role, supporting the government that some see as illegitimate while failing to provide enough support to make a difference.

This will be an intereting conversation.

[Press TV Tehran] November 12th: Jack Talks Sexual Harassment in U.S.

I appear on Press TV Iran on November 12th. Hundreds marched in Los Angeles to call attention to sexual harassment in Hollywood. However, it clearly doesn't stop there. We've seen in in Legislatures across the country.  There is the Roy Moore story, Uber, Donald Trump, and the list goes on and on.

This should be a really interesting conversation. The problem is that it is everywhere. Its true in entertainment, politics, tech, law, government, and just about everywhere else.  This is systemic and not just one bad apple. I will do my best to describe the problem but have no illusion that I will do it justice or truly explain that damage that it has done. However, I will do my best.

Hope you can catch it somewhere in the world.

[Press TV Tehran] October 31st: Jack Talks Trump's Renewed Muslim Ban Effort

I appear on Press TV Tehran on October 31st.  This is President Trump's third effort to ban Muslim refugees. Now, I saw this very consciously because this is exactly what he told his screaming throngs that he was going to do.  He didn't say terrorists, he said Muslims.  Therefore, one can shine this up all day long and add caveats but it doesn't seem to change the ultimate motivation.

Considering I will be talking with the Iranian Press and one of the counties to which this ban would apply, this should certainly be an interesting conversation.

Hope you can catch it.
