About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer and trial skills teacher aroud the world, its his most important tool. As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

[Nicole Sandler Show] February 2nd: GOP/Trump Rolls the Dice and Releases Memo

I appear on on the Nicole Sandler Show on February 2nd.  The story of the Nunez memo is dominating the political headlines. Everybody wants to know, why would the President decide to ignore the Justice Department and the FBI and release a completely unredacted memo?  Why would he release a memo that by all objective accounts, ignores some evidence in order to provide a slanted, subjective viewpoint? Why would he release classified information that discloses but sources and methods over the objection of both Justice and the Bureau. These are all really important questions and ones that say a lot about the state of the country right  now.

This will be interesting.

[I24 International News] June 23rd: Jack Talks Putin's Russian Op.

I appear on I24 International News on June 23rd. Back in 2016, it became clear to my former employer, the Central Intelligence Agency, that the Russian government with the understanding and active support of President Vladimir Putin tried to run political operations against the United States to impact U.S. elections.  This was the most aggressive operation by the Russians against the U.S. in decades, maybe longer.  This conclusion was based upon extensive and intensive intelligence.  The Obama Administration took this to senior members of Congress who were briefed on the issues and became aware of what the Russians were doing. Frankly, at some point, the upcoming Trump Administration was completely briefed on the issue.

While there are many frustrating parts, one part is how the Republicans have hid behind President Trump's narrative that the Russian op was fake news.  It wasn't.  There is no excuse for this and the GOP is doing a disservice to the United States to minimize what the Russians were trying to accomplish.

President Trump's subsequent efforts, or lack thereof, are certainly of concern.  Bob Mueller's investigation continues and hopefully we will find the answers to his complicity as well as those of his compatriots.

Hope you can watch.

[Voice of America Intl. Edition] May 29th: Jack Talks Trump, Kushner, and the Russians

I appear on Voice of America International Edition. President Trump just returned from an international trip. His hope was to change the story and try to focus on something, anything, rather than continue talking about the question of Russian complicity and conspiracy. However, in his absence, the story broke regarding Senior Advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner's apparent efforts to set up a covert comminution system with the Russians out of the Russian embassy. It is an extraordinary story and one that is terribly disconcerting as it has the potential to open up Kushner and the President to blackmail. Of course, that is unless they were actually recruited by the Russians. Of course, at this point, nobody knows all of the answers but there are many many questions that remain unanswered. This is an extraordinary story;

Hope you can listen.

[AM950 Minneapolis] April 24th: Jack Talks Trump/Russia and the Senate Intel Committee

I appear on AM 950 in Minneapolis on April 24th at 3:30 p.m. c.s.t.  As the story of Trump and the Russians refuses to die, there are three ongoing investigations, the FBI, the House Intelligence Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee.  While the FBI investigation iis pretty veiled and difficult to figure out at this point, it is clear the the House Intelligence Committee is in turmoil and a political trainwreck  Congressman Nunez has recused himself and the fingerpointing continues. That leaves the Senate Intelligence Committee.

At this point, Senator Burr's Chairmnaship of this Committee certainly has a lot of questions to answer.  For instance, the Committee has interviewed nobody.  In fact, they have subpoened nobody. Further, they have no fulltime staff investigating the matter and of the part time staff they do have, none of them have prosecutorial experience. None of them have investigative experience.  And, none of them have intelligence experience.  So, what exactly are they doing?  At this rate, President Trump will be out of office before anybody even starts addressing the issue of whether or not he or his team colluded with the Russians.

Lets be clear, this is not fake news. U.S. intelligence has concluded that the Russians absolutely attempted to manipulate the Presidential election.  We also know that the Russians were trying to help Trump.  The only question is whether Trump actively or passively accepted that help.  This is what we need to know.

This will be a fun interview.

[MSNBC] March 11th: Jack Talks Trump/Russian Connections

I appear on AM Joy on MSNBC at 9 am. e.s.t. to discuss the latest connections between the Trump administration and the Russians.  It is quite extraordinary how many connections continue to pop up.  One of my concerns is the flat out denials and then the revelations. Consider Flynn, Sessions and more.

Of course, the Russians have a long history of trying to influence elections.  This shouldn't be a shock.  The Americans have done the same thing over the decades.  The real question now is how successful the Russians were at co-opting the Trump machine during the election process.  One of the problems of course is that it is unclear what kinds of financial ties the Trump organization has with the Russians,  This is certainly an issue that needs to be considered.

This should be an interesting and fun conversation.  Joy is smart and funny and I always enjoy myself.

[AM 950 Minneapolis] March 2nd: Jack Talks Russians and AG Sessions' Recusal

I just appeared on AM 950 in Minneapolis with my friend Matt McNeil.  The story of Russian efforts to manipulate US elections and its blowback continue to expand and even gain traction.  Yes, Micahel Flynn is out. Now, it appears the Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made some incredibly serious gaffs that are going to be hard to justify.  As a result, he just recused himself from the investigation which is initself extraordinary. However, that may not be enough.  He could become a target of the investigation and may actually face perjury charges.

While perjury charges seem unlikely at this point or even his resignation, this issue is not going away and will dog the GOP for a loing time to come.  POTUS certainly wants to talk about something else but his war with the media has certainly not helped him make too many friends in that camp so expect the fight to continue, and with gusto.

Hope you were able to catch it.

[KOA Denver] March 2nd: Jack Talks Russians and AG Sessions

I appear on KOA in Denver with my old friend Steffan Tubbs to discuss the latest developments in the investigation of Russian involvement with the Trump campaign.  AG Sessions was asked multiple times exactly what contacts he had and then denied having any whatsoever.  It was reveled today that in fact he met several times with the Russian Ambassador to the U.S.  This is tough to reconcile and Democrats and even a few GOPers are asking him to recuse huimself from running the investigaiton.  That may be the least of his worries.

Hope you can catch it.

[Russian TV International] Saturday, June 4th: Jack Talks Sorting Out the Good Guys from the Bad in Syria

What happens when it is hard to tell the good guys from the bad and everybody wants to be the leader? Think Syria. Al Qaida continues to operate and so does ISIL and the Iranians want to fight but so does the Damascus regime and the Russians and the Americans and the Brits and the French. And they all have different agendas. Get the picture? I'm on Russian TV out of Moscow soon to discuss.

[KARE 11 Appearance] July 9th: Talk on Law and Russian Spies

I appear on KARE 11 on Friday, July 9th.  With the biggest spy swap since the Cold War, there are a lot of questions about who won in the swap.  that is a very difficult question and both sides had different goals.  However, one this is very clear.  Spying has never stopped and will likely increase as intelligence is more important than ever before.

Hope you can watch it.
