About Jack

Jack is really a storyteller, international explorer, and humanitarian and everything else rolls out from there. As a writer, its what he does.  As a trial lawyer, its his most important tool.  As a former CIA officer, the only way to truly motivate people is to connect and to tell them a story that they can feel viscerally.  As a media analyst, what better way to make a point.  In the end, he tries to captivate his audience about the world and its people as much as he himself is captivated.

[I24 International News] November 30th: Russians Expanding Influence

I appear on I24 International News on November 30th. Okay, I have to tell you the truth. This was one of the most enjoyable segments I have done in a really long time. Essentially, the Russians through Russian FM Medvedev and the Egyptians have agreed to share airspace. While this may not seem like a huge deal, it is. It essentially give the Russians enormous latitude to operate in the region.  There have been credible reports that Russian Special Ops troops were operating on the western border of Egypt as recently as March of this year.  Combine these two and it shows just how closely the countries are beginning to cooperate. Understand, Egypt was one of the closest allies the Americans had in the region.  Now?  Who knows.

Combine the relationship with the Russian agreements with the Turks, the Iranians, the Iraqis and what you start to see is like nothing the West has ever seen before. I'm not even talking about the Russians support of Asaad and Syria.  That piece is beyond extraordinary.  Frankly, with the vacuum created by the current U.S. Administration in the region, the Russians are moving in and filling the gap in a big way.

I was able to talk about history, borders, interests, cold war politics, hot war politics and Putin and Trump. Bring it on.  So so cool.

[Russian TV Moscow] October 25th: Jack Talks Syrian Revolution, Civil War and Proxies

I appear on Russian TV Moscow on October 25th. When Syria started to blow apart back in 2011, it was complicated. It has only become progressively so. It really start as a revolution of sorts with Syrian civilian and military rebels acquiring weapons for former Syrian military personnel who supported the cause. It was only then that the various interests around the globe truly took notice and took sides. The Free Syrian Army was one such group but there are and were many many alternatives.  The probke is that massive weaponry poured into the country from all directions from those seeking a voice and control in the region, from Truket, to Iran, to Saudi Arabia to Russia to the United States and beyond.  This includes the proxies of the proxies.  As a result, the infighting within the country driven from the inside and the outside multipled.

I will appear to talk its history, the players, the complications, and more.

[Press TV Tehran] October 24th: Jack Talks Delays in Kurdistan Elections and the Treaty of Versailles

I appear on Press TV Tehran on October 24th.  The Iraqi Kurdistan parliament has voted to delay elections by eight months.  There were as lot of countries watching what was happening out of Erbil. Its clear that Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Syria, and the U.S. is not interested in seeing an independent Kurdistan and it potentially threatens that borders of those existing countries and could also create some short term instability on the region.  Let's face it, the fear is a domino effect in which one move could force another, could force another, etc.  is a very real one where we have seen a lot of instability in the last several decades.

The problem is that millions of Kurds were disenfranchised and marginalized when the Europeans arbitrarily cut the Middle East up into its current scheme at the Treaty of Versailles in 1919.  At the point, millions of Kurds were placed into Iraq, with millions more placed in Iran, Turkey, Syria and even the Southern Republicans.  The net result was a guarantee that none of those Kurdish groups would have a majority voice.

This will be a fun conversation.

[Press TV Tehran] September 24th: Jack Talks Kurdish Independence

I appear on Press TV Iran on September 24th.  The Kurdish people of Iraq are preparing to have a referendum on Monday, September 25th. It is not actually to declare independence but rather a very informal declaration that this is something that they really want to do.  The problem is the the U.S., the United Nations, the Turks, the Iraqis and more are against it because it threatens them.

This will be an interesting conversation because this is a massive issue for the Kurdish people. They were cut into geographic pieces after World War I and decimated by most every country afterward.  They want more and identify themselves as one people.  Will this make a difference?

This will be an interesting conversation as the Iraniangovernment isn't particuarly interested in helping them either.

[I24 International News] September 6th: Jack Talks Iran and Preemptive Strikes

I appear on I24 International News on September 6th. Today is the 10th Anniversary of the Israelis bombing a nuclear facility in Syria.  Fast forward 10 years and contemplate what might have happened if they hadn't?Subsequent intelligence concluded thew Israelis hit a facility designed to create plutonium for weapons and apparently the Syrians were receiving help from the North Koreans.  Further, imagine, what the Syrians might have done to their own people with these weapons?  As horrifyingly, contemplate ISIS being able to acquire the weapons?

This brings us to the present day and this highlights the question of what should be done with North Korea or even Iran.  This promises to be a spirited debate as I understand I am going to be debating an Israeli Likud party member who believes in preemptive strikes and that Iran should be the next target.

I disagree.

Prepare for the fight.  This is going to get interesting as its all well as good to talk tough about war and death when you've never seen it.  I, sadly, have and I don't wish it upon anybody.

[I24 International News] July 19th: Jack Talks U.S. Ending CIA Covert Ops in Support of Rebels in Syria

I appear on I24 International News at 9:15 p.m. e.s.t. The Trump Administration stated that they intend to end CIA operations in Syrian to help train and arm Rebels against the Damascus regime.  This cuts against the Obama Administration and is consistent with what the Russians have been trying to do the entire time. The Russians have continued to support and arm President Assad against those same rebels. President Trump claims that the focus needs to be on ISIS and not Assad.

I appear appear on I24 International to discuss the ramifications of such a move.  The U.S. has long standing problems in the region and to decision cuts against the chemical weapons attacks conducted by the Assad regime against civilians.  Where will this go next?  A lot of questions.

This should be interesting.

[RT International Moscow] June 2nd: Jack Talks More Civilian Deaths in Iraq and Syria

I appear on RT International on June 2nd.  A recent study just determined that almost 500 innocent civilians have been killed by U.S. airstrikes in Northern Iraq and Syria since 2014.  Sadly, the problem is that with a change in definiations, the numbers of innocent civilian death may actually be substantially higher.  The Secretary of Defense called such deaths a fact of life.  This was a horrible description and one that will actually increase the tension.

Tis will be an interesting coversation.  Hope you can catch it.

[Russia TV Moscow] May 21st: Jack Talks a Post Syrian War World

I appear on Russian TV to talk Syria and the aftermath.  As the U.S. continues as part of a coalition to fight ISIS, there is a real question as to what happens after the war.  Its easy to talk about the fight, blowing things up and killing people.  However, what happens after the fighting has stopped and things need to be rebuilt. Unfortunately, by then nobody is watching and nobody cares. However, with millions of people in the wake of the war, what happens afterward may be even more important.  And yet, American officials are already talking about not wanting to pay for the rebuilding.  So, it is a nation building question which is hard for Americans.

This promises to be interesting.

[Russian TV Moscow] April 13th: Jack Talks World Concerns over Latest U.S. Strike in Afghanistan

I appear on Russian TV out of Moscow on April 13th at 6 p.m. e.s.t.   The U.S. is still in the wake of its strike in Syria with 59 tomahawk missiles. Now, with the dropping of a huge conventional bomb with 11,000 lbs of explosives in Afghanistan, and a U.S. Battle Group on their way to North Korea, the rest of the world is extremely nervous about exactly what is going on.  Combine that with all that is going on with the Trump/Russian investigation alongside Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's recent visit to Moscow as well as the G7, there is an extraordinary amount happening in the world.

So, I'll appear with the Russians and try to take a breath and hit this as broadly and thuroughly as I can.  Of course, the Russian government has their own agenda but so do the Americans and everybody else.  I just call em as I see em.

If you can get it, hope you will watch.
